Sellick's Maneuver — Not the Panacea We Thought

"Before throwing this tool out, people should take a look at the literature and form their own opinion. Nearly all of the published research on cricoid pressure and its friend the BURP technique were done in laboratory settings or in the operating room as an isolated procedure."

How Much Is Enough Experience?

"In my field, you learn most things through experience and experimentation. The grizzled veterans tend to occupy small-town jobs where they lovingly teach their apprentices. Whereas, in my own case, I was thrown to the wolves in a corporate environment."

EMS1 Forums Post of the Week
"I started in EMS in 1982. Got quite a bit of, 'you sure you can lift that, honey?' I did not get at least one job in the early years due to gender. I see acceptance for women in non-fire-based services to be pretty good now. I am still hearing stories of harassment in fire departments, however."
