EMS1 Forums Post of the Week
"Why is it so hard to recruit and maintain employees? For my area, we are well above the average population in terms of pay and benefits. Sure it would be great to compete with major city fire departments and very large ambulance districts with large tax bases, but we can't. And how much is enough? When the average person within your community makes on average $25,000 - $30,000 a year and very poor benefits, how do you explain that their tax money is going to pay a paramedic 2 - 3 times what he makes as a teacher, police officer, etc.?"
