Seriously injured patients are more likely to survive when transferred from small-town hospitals to high-level trauma centers, a new study from Oregon shows.

While transporting critically ill patients long distances by ambulance or aircraft adds risk, the study provides evidence that the benefits of specialized trauma centers more than make up for that risk. "As a medic, we all know that the 'definitive' airway is endotracheal intubation. But what do you use if you are not successful? What do you use as an initial and back up airway? What do you like best, worst, etc.? Does your service see a trend in successes versus declination of some equipment? I am just trying to get an idea of what folks are using. Thanks for your input."
