CHINO, Calif. — Nine children, some as young as 3, were injured Tuesday in a crash involving a school bus and a car. Three adults also were hurt.

The accident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. at an intersection, authorities said. The bus, chartered by a local Head Start program, collided with a car and veered off the street, hitting a planter and several cars in a parking lot, authorities said. All of the children were in car seats at the time of the crash.

All of the injuries were minor, but the victims were taken to hospitals as a precaution, said Inspector Ryan Dacko of the Chino Valley Independent Fire District.

"We're talking bumps and bruises," Dacko said. "It doesn't sound too serious."

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
