Ambulance driver faulted in fatal Iowa crash

The Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa — An ambulance driver has been cited after a deadly crash near Des Moines last month.

Patricia Carr of Ankeny died when her SUV was hit by the ambulance in Bondurant.

The Polk County sheriff's office says Kimberly Mulligan of the Baxter fire department violated a law requiring emergency vehicle drivers to slow down and use caution when going through a red light or stop sign.

Authorities say the rescue squad, which was transporting a patient to a hospital, had its emergency lights and siren on but was going through a red light.

Five others were injured.
