Driver identified in fatal Calif. crash; 2 paramedics injured

DESERT HOT SPRINGS — The driver killed in an apparent alcohol-related, head-on collision with an ambulance in Desert Hot Springs was identified Wednesday as a 19-year-old Cathedral City resident.

Victor Alfonso Magana Chavez and his front-seat passenger, 20-year-old Xavier Santos of Cathedral City, were killed in the Monday night crash.

Four others were injured - two in the Ford Thunderbird that Chavez was driving and the driver and a paramedic in the American Medical Response ambulance, according to the California Highway Patrol.
