EMS overwhelmed by sick concert goers

Crews from five communities near Boston treated 46 and transported 22, mostly for alcohol-related illnesses at Keith Urban show

The Associated Press

MANSFIELD, Mass. — Authorities say several dozen people were treated for alcohol-related illnesses at a weekend Keith Urban concert in Massachusetts.

Police and fire officials say ambulances from five surrounding communities responded to the Saturday night concert at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, about 30 miles south of Boston.

At least 46 people were treated and 22 taken to local hospitals.

Police say more than 50 people were taken into protective custody at the concert, and some could face charges.

Markus Menge Markus Menge Monday, July 28, 2014 2:38:26 PM Ähhmmm... Guys - a strange question from Germany: Over here we do have EMS on scene at such concerts. Isn't this a common practice in MS?
Michelle Tower Michelle Tower Monday, July 28, 2014 3:08:41 PM It is but not prepared for mass patients
Markus Menge Markus Menge Monday, July 28, 2014 4:00:22 PM in two weeks, I'll be on EMS-on scene at a 35k - festival for a week. Preps are for about 2k patients, including 20 beds for sobering out...
Lisa Hemenez-Baria Lisa Hemenez-Baria Monday, July 28, 2014 5:22:46 PM I believe they need Rock Med, from San Francisco, CA to cover medical at their concerts! We have only been doing them since 1973. Outside Lands will have 100k people a day in attendance this year and we handle that and many more concerts, festivals, etc. without calling it a MCI. The stats from that Keith Urban concert are normal for us.
Jake Istre Jake Istre Tuesday, July 29, 2014 8:19:00 AM i volunteered with rock med back in 1989-2001 in sacramento ca when they would still do bill graham venues. a wonderful man by the name of glenn razwick ran the program. cool people that provide a huge service.

Mark Priest Mark Priest Wednesday, July 30, 2014 10:08:31 AM about this many folks went to the ER for eating too much weed in Colorado but you wont see this on the mainstream news demonizing alcohol for its toxic effects. Glad someone covered it! Dang I didn't thing Keith Urban fans were such lightweights! Just kidding
