Ambulance rolls over with critically ill toddler inside
The ambulance lost control and rolled down a steep embankment; the toddler was not strapped in and is in intensive care
OXFORD, England — An ambulance in England was carrying a critically ill toddler and her mother when it lost control and rolled down an embankment before being spotted by a passing motorist.
BBC reported the two-year-old was being transported from one hospital to another with a suspected case of meningitis and was not strapped in when the incident occurred.
The toddler and her mother both suffered bruising. Bill Robinson, the child’s grandfather, said the girl is now in intensive care.
An ambulance spokesman said the paramedics on the ambulance were taken to the hospital as a precaution. A medic, who had been in the back with the patient, suffered minor injuries.
It is unclear what caused the crash and it is unknown if the ambulance had its lights and sirens on at the time.
An internal investigation is underway.
