FORT GREENE, N.Y. — A wake was held Sunday in honor of a retired EMT who died last week after succumbing to a Ground Zero-related illness.

EMT Francis Charles served with the New York City Fire Department for 24 years before cancer linked to his work on the toxic pile at Ground Zero — forcing him to retire in 2010, according to WABC.
