Dr. John Freese FDNY Medical Director for Training, New York, New York

Dr. John Freese has been with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) EMS Command since 2003. After serving as the borough medical director for Manhattan for the past several years, he was designated the FDNY Medical Director for Training providing medical oversight for all paramedic, EMT, and Certified First Responder training within the Department. He also serves as the Director of Prehospital Research, Medical Director for the FDNY On-Line Medical Control Facility, and as a physician with FEMA’s New York-Task Force 1 USAR team. He began his EMS career as an EMT and then paramedic while attending college at DePauw University, in Greencastle, IN where he still serves as medical director for the EMS education program. Dr. Freese also worked as a paramedic throughout medical school and residency and served as a flight physician during his residency training. In addition to his responsibilities within the FDNY, he maintains a full-time clinical practice in the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital, a Level I trauma center in lower Manhattan.
