BIG HORN COUNTY, Wyo. — St Vincent Healthcare Pediatric Providers were in Hardin last Thursday to train local health care providers on the latest methods of caring for kids during the most critical moments of trauma.

With many parts of Big Horn County being very rural and in some cases hours away from the nearest medical facility it’s the training of the emergency medical response team that could very well mean the difference between life or death. What's more, emergency medical treatment of children has its own set of obstacles to overcome not the least of which is determining quickly the appropriate size instruments and medication dosages needed to treat children of various ages.

The “Color Coding Kids” or Broselow method developed by Doctors Jim Broselow and Bob Luten provides tools that remove time-consuming steps when treating children in emergency situations. As part of the Montana Pediatric Project, an initiative to improve access to, and the quality of, pediatric healthcare throughout Montana and beyond, St. Vincent Healthcare Pediatric nurses and medical experts is traveling the state to teach health care providers how to use the tools to streamline pediatric emergency care.
