Energy office opens grant for responders' fuel costs in ND

BISMARCK, N.D. — After making money available for county and township roads impacted by oil development, a third round of grants through the Energy Infrastructure and Impact Office will go to emergency response organizations.
The office has $2 million to award to counties, cities, rural fire departments and ambulance districts to help deal with impact from oil and gas development. Priority will go to projects that enhance safety and have long-term benefit for multiple providers within a region.
Lance Gaebe, program director, said the money will support training, equipment and facilities.
Applications are due Jan. 31 and awards will be made in March by the Board of University and School Lands. Board members are Gov. Jack Dalrymple, Secretary of State Al Jaeger, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, Superintendent of Public Instruction Wayne Sanstead and State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt.
The board may allocate more money if a tax collection trigger is met and another $30 million becomes available.
