Minivan runs down 4 teens in Mass. parking lot
3 girls were hit and dragged between 30 and 40 feet, suffering serious injuries; a male friend was also hurt

ROCKLAND, Mass. — Three teenage girls were seriously injured when they were run down by a minivan yesterday afternoon in a Rockland parking lot, a town fire official said.
The three girls, along with a male teenage friend, were struck by the minivan at about 4 p.m. in a Church Street parking lot, said Rockland Fire Capt. Scott Duffey.
The girls, ages 16 and 17, were hit and dragged between 30 and 40 feet, suffering serious head traumas, and leg, hip and abdominal injuries, fire officials said.
The injuries of one girl were so serious that fire officials wanted to have her flown to Boston for treatment, but a helicopter couldn't make the trip because of heavy wind, Duffey said. She was taken first to South Shore Hospital and then to Children's Hospital in Boston.
Another girl was taken to South Shore Hospital, while the other two teens were sent to Brockton Hospital. The girls suffered serious head trauma and had broken bones, according to Rockland Fire Chief Robert Dipoli.
The teens were struck by the minivan in a parking lot where a group of teens were hanging out, Duffey said. He could not say whether the teens who were run down knew the occupants of the van.
Rockland police could not immediately be reached.
