Teen jumps in front of fire truck, smashes windshield with head

The 17-year-old was arrested for vandalizing a fire truck and interfering with an emergency vehicle

KABC

REDLANDS, Calif. — A 17-year-old Redlands boy is facing vandalism charges after he jumped in front of a fire engine responding to a medical emergency Saturday. Firefighters were heading south on Olive Avenue with the truck's sirens blaring around 1 a.m. when they noticed a boy impeding the engine from passing.

As the fire engine came to a complete stop to avoid hitting the boy, the suspect reportedly jumped on the front bumper of the engine. Police said that's when the boy began to strike the windshield with his head and fists, damaging the windshield.

Firefighters quickly moved the teen to a grassy area to determine if he had been injured. A struggle shortly ensued as firefighters attempted to calm the boy down.
