Feds to launch investigation into Detroit's EMS system

After a series of reports, officials say they will be probing Detroit's situation

By Charlie LeDuff
My Fox Detroit, FOX 2

DETROIT — It's a problem that Fox 2 has been exposing for several years. Detroit's broken down ambulances are putting lives in jeopardy. City leaders tell us they're working to improvethe system.

But residents say it's getting worse. Now the feds are now launching an investigation. Following Charlie's story, Fox 2 received a response from Dr. Jenny Atlas, Medical Director for Detroit East Medical Control Authority:

"It is my great privilege and pleasure to work with the Detroit EMS as the Medical Director for Detroit East Medical Control Authority (MCA). It is my responsibility to ensure that the technicians are trained to deal with medical emergencies from broken ankles to heart attacks and serious trauma. In addition, it is the role of the MCA to develop and implement protocols to support these activities."

Don Lyng Don Lyng Friday, February 08, 2013 6:50:08 PM What? Something failed in DETROIT? I don't believe it! 911 EMS dropped 911 calls to transport and bill Medicaid? Guess the FBI would be REAL BUSY if they looked into this IN EVERY CITY IN THIS COUNTRY! Hell, I know one right in Central PA that does that on a daily basis! If no one has guessed by now, 911 runs don't pay the bills and keep the lights on..........Medicaid/Medicare transport and Insurance transport runs do..........don't know what to tell ya citizens.
