RUSH SPRINGS, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol announced Friday that a 65-year-old Rush Springs woman died three days after a November collision with a deer in Grady County.
Cathy Dobbs, 65, died Nov. 18 from injuries sustained in the collision, according to the OHP. She had been flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City following the collision.
Dobbs was riding in a 1999 Honda Civic driven by Helen Adams, 74, of Rush Springs, on Nov. 15 when a deer crossed the car's path on U.S. 81, 1/10-mile north of Grady County Road 1474, moments after 10 p.m., according to the report. Adams swerved to avoid the deer, went off the roadway and the car overturned 1½ times before coming to rest in the median with Dobbs partially ejected and pinned by the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes before being freed by Rush Springs firefighters using the Jaws of Life, said Trooper Steven Mitchell.
Adams and another passenger, Connie Jennings, 67, of Rush Springs, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released, Mitchell said. Another passenger, Ellen Simpson, 57, Rush Springs, refused medical treatment.
Mitchell's investigation determined that all four women were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck but that the airbags didn't deploy.
