Maine police chief, wife injured in truck crash
The police chief and his wife were riding in their truck when another vehicle that was out of control struck them

HARRINGTON, Maine — The police chief of Machias, his wife and a woman from Whitneyville all were injured Sunday afternoon when two pickup trucks collided on Route 1A, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
Grady Dwelley, 65, and his wife Lynn Dwelley, 50, were riding their 2008 Ford truck west on the road around 3:30 p.m. when the accident occurred. According to Cpl. Brandon Parker of the sheriff's department, Dorothy Davis, 53, of Whitneyville was driving a 2000 Ford truck in the opposite direction when she fell asleep.
The Machias police chief, driving the 2008 Ford, saw that Davis' truck was veering out of control and started to slow down in an attempt to avoid a collision but the two vehicles struck nearly head-on, Parker said.
"They hit almost in the middle of the road," Parker said.
Parker was not exactly sure of the resulting injuries but said none of them are believed to be life-threatening. Grady Dwelley suffered injuries to his arm and Lynn Dwelley hurt her shoulder, he said, while Davis was having chest pain after the collision. All three were transported by ambulance to Down East Community Hospital in Machias for treatment, Parker added.
He said he had not yet been updated of their conditions on Monday morning.
Both pick up trucks were demolished in the accident and all three passengers were wearing seatbelts, the deputy said. Airbags in the vehicles also deployed in the collision.
According to Machias town officials, Dwelley was not in the office Monday morning as he and his wife still were recuperating from the accident. Further information about their conditions was unavailable.
