Cop accused of stabbing Va. responders faces more charges

Bradley Colas is now charged with attempted murder, firearms count

By EMS1 Staff

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach police officer accused of attacking two firefighters at the scene of a car crash is facing more charges.

Bradley Colas was previously charged with two counts of malicious wounding of an emergency medical care provider.

On Wednesday, the 23-year-old was charged with attempted murder and a firearms count, according to The Associated Press.

The charges stem from an incident March 4 when Colas crashed his car and allegedly stabbed two firefighters treating him. He was also accused of pulling out a gun and shooting at responders.

Colas' lawyer blamed the incident on side effects from an antibiotic he took for a respiratory infection, according to the report.

Robert Limpert Robert Limpert Thursday, March 15, 2012 5:40:48 PM Wow. Antibiotic for a resp infection huh? Like a z pak. Wow. Ive seen A LOT of reactions to alot of meds in my 24 years but never a reaction to an antibiotic that would. Make you try to murder the responders with a knife and a gun. I have a hard time believeing this is his first resp infection. Hes a public servent.
Charles Henke Charles Henke Friday, March 16, 2012 12:23:08 AM Amazing... "allergies to antibiotics" can lead to fellow 1st Responders being attacked, stabbed and having a gun pulled on them; by a "fellow 1st Responder". Someone was a bad cop, and will receive no mulligan on this!

Rachael Powell Wheelin Rachael Powell Wheelin Monday, March 19, 2012 3:33:30 AM Yeah. Antibiotics doing this is a crock of crap. That's probably the worst lie I have ever heard for a call of this nature. What do you want to bet that they all know each other outside of this and there are underlying circumstances?
Trae Brown Trae Brown Tuesday, March 20, 2012 3:17:53 PM So when do antibiotics cause that kind of rage, maybe I'm missing something. Where's Nancy Grace at in all this lol.
