Using Medical Images in Education
In teaching, we communicate both orally and verbally when describing our patients. For instance, a patient having an acute myocardial infarction would be described in lectures and on slides as pale, diaphoretic, and with Levine's sign. The problem -- especially to the new EMS provider -- is that these terms are ambiguous as the provider may have yet to ever encounter them. So why not use photography to visually demonstrate those concepts that you are trying to describe through words? Taking your own photographs will allow you to take case-based learning and student-instructor interaction to the next level.
