Ill. EMT helps wife deliver baby in SUV
As an EMT, Patrick Heusing had only been in this situation once before, and this time was completely different for him
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Patrick, an EMT/firefighter, had the day off and accompanied his wife, Sara, a nurse at Presence St. Mary's Hospital's MICU, to her weekly doctor appointment. Sara had just reached her 37th week of pregnancy with their second child.
At the appointment, the doctor said that the baby was right on track and it was time for her to stop working and rest. After the doctor visit, Sara stopped at Presence St. Mary's Hospital to let her supervisor know she was beginning her maternity leave.
She probably wishes she would have taken a little longer at the hospital, because the baby wasn't going to wait until she returned to the Birthing Center.
