MANHEIM TWP., Pa. — Thieves took advantage of another person's troubles Saturday afternoon, helping themselves to $1,000 worth of items from an open ambulance.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police said the Manheim Township Ambulance Association responded to an emergency call at the Calvary Fellowship Homes in the 500 block of Elizabeth Drive.

While the crew ran into the nursing facility to help the patient, police said a thief apparently reached into the open ambulance and grabbed a medical equipment bag.

The bag, police said, contained $1,000 worth of medical equipment, but no narcotics. Police said when the crew returned to the ambulance, they discovered the bag missing.

Witnesses told police they saw a dark gray, older-model minivan near the open ambulance around the time of the theft and noticed it leaving the area quickly.
