Ambulance, semitrailer collide in Neb.; 5 injured

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — An ambulance responding to an emergency call became the emergency yesterday when it was hit be a semitrailer in Grand Island.

The crash sent 5 people to the hospital — including the two paramedics and an emergency worker in training in the ambulance.

The drivers of the semi and another vehicle were also taken to the hospital. All are expected to recover.

There was no patient in the ambulance at the time of the crash.

The force of the crash sent the semi into a utility pole and junction box. The traffic light at the crash site was destroyed.

Grand Island Public Works officials says it will cost around $30,000 and up to 6 months to get the light at the intersection replaced.
