EMS' first PCR app coming to the iPad

Get your index fingers ready — the EMS world is about to get iPad savvy with the coming release of the first ever Patient Care Report app.

The app, created by InspiringApps, is billed as an "inexpensive, easy-to-use PCR for use on Apple's iPad," said Paul McCrosson, client development manager for InspiringApps.

Users can download the app (through the iTunes Store beginning January 2011) and begin creating Run Reports, sharing them using HIPAA-compliant best-practices immediately after downloading.

The app, called PCR for iPad, will also have a service that will automate the distribution, including sending HCFA 1500 data, state compliance reporting, and PCR distribution that can be customized to each agency's needs and state requirements.

According to McCrosson, this is just the start of the apps coming out of InspiringApps.

"We'll be putting a lot of useful features and services together that really leverage the strengths of the iPad, which is great for EMTs and the EMS industry as we improve reliability and ease-of-use, as we drive down the cost of using technology," he said.

McCrosson said the cost will be less than $100 per download, and you'll never have to pay for a renewal or additional license fees. The cost of an iPad is less than $700, protected in a Defender series OtterBox case.

"We are trying to serve crews and departments that can't afford the current systems that are out there," said McCrosson. "If you have an iPad, there's no reason why you couldn't use this to have your own PCR with you."
