Michigan Instruments ThumperŪ model 1007 Conversion to meet new AHA CPR Guidelines
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., - The present 1007 ThumperŪ is designed to meet the previous AHA CPR Guidelines for use of a mechanical CPR device. It has proven to provide excellent CPR using high impulse 50% duty cycle compressions at a rate of 100 compressions per minute with ventilation delivered with a 5:1 ratio. However, Michigan Instruments (MII) is aware that 1007 users wish to provide CPR according to the new 2005 AHA guidelines.
That is why MII is pleased to announce a Model 1007 ThumperŪ conversion to deliver continuous 100 high impulse compressions per minute with a 50% duty cycle that allows for the new 2005 AHA CPR guidelines:
· CPR without an advanced airway requiring 100 chest compressions per minute with ventilation given twice for every 30 compressions; or
· CPR with an advanced airway requiring 100 chest compressions per minute with asynchronous ventilations per minute.
The conversion changes internal pneumatic circuitry and provides a convenient external switch. The converted 1007 ThumperŪ will continue to provide the original 5:1 compression to ventilation ratio or, by flipping the switch, it will provide continuous 100 per minute compressions with a 50% duty cycle but will turn off the built-in ventilator. Ventilation is then supplied by the caregiver using any appropriate ventilation means at a ratio of 30:2 or if an advanced airway is present, 8 to 10 asynchronous ventilations per minute.
Since the Model 1007 ThumperŪ is an FDA regulated medical device, the conversion must be completed at MII. Before a current ThumperŪ 1007 can be converted to meet the 2005 AHA CPR Guideline, it must be inspected and pass a required performance and quality assurance test. If a received 1007 ThumperŪ does not pass the initial performance test, MII will provide estimates to repair it, repair and convert it, or to replace the unit with a trade-in allowance on a new ThumperŪ model (see below). If none of these options are desired, the unit will be returned in as-working condition as received along with the test results. The cost of the conversion of a ThumperŪ Model 1007 to a Model 1007 CCV that does not need repairs will be $480 per unit plus freight and shipping charges. Due to regulatory issues, currently the upgrade is only available in the United States. Upgrades will be available for international customers September 1, 2006.
Finally, MII is proud to announce two new ThumperŪ models are available.
Model 1007 CCV ThumperŪ delivers:
- 100 continuous high impulse compressions per minute with a 50% duty cycle with the built-in ventilator turned off; or
- 80 high impulse compressions per minute at a rate of 100 compressions per minute with a with a 50% duty cycle using a 5:1 compression to ventilation ratio using the built-in ventilator.
Model 1007 CC ThumperŪ delivers:
- 100 high impulse continuous compressions per minute with a 50% duty cycle but has no ventilator. Rescuers may then use their own preferred ventilation means. This unit is considerably simpler and lighter weight.
