Carbon monoxide hospitalizes six in N.Y.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Six residents were hospitalized Saturday night after being exposed to carbon monoxide, according to police.

Police said two of the victims were in critical condition. One was taken to Westchester Medical Center; the other was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital, along with four victims who had been exposed to less of the dangerous gas, according to police.

At 8 p.m., a 15-year-old called police and said six of his relatives appeared ill, police said. Emergency medical crews responded to 174 South Swan St. and determined the cause.

Police said all six victims could have died had the 15-year-old not arrived home when he did. A faulty furnace may have been responsible, according to police, who could not confirm whether the house had a carbon monoxide detector.
