Neb. paramedic recovers from black widow's bite

The Associated Press

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A Grand Island paramedic recovering from a black widow spider bite hopes to be back on the job soon.

J.J. Wohlers was bitten in July while on duty at a fire station. He was admitted to the hospital when 1 of his arms started changing colors and the pain grew unbearable.

Wohlers spent nearly a month in and out of hospitals, including surgery for a blood clot. He has been home for about two weeks now and says he's beginning to regain his strength.

Wohlers say he's eager to return to work - but he doesn't know when that may happen.

In the meantime, the city fumigated the fire station and continues to take extra precautions.
