Miss. EMT delays cause concern

By Melissa Turner
The Democrat

WINONA, Miss. — Less than two years after Tate County handed the reins of its ambulance service over to a private company, performance is causing concern among some in the community.

In fact, the situation has gotten so severe that personnel from the Senatobia Volunteer Fire Department have begun responding to ambulance calls within city limits — and now, citizens are demanding to know what the problem is.

Senatobia Fire Chief Gary Copeland told members of the Board of Aldermen at their September 1 meeting that nearly half of their calls for the month of August, or about 43 of the 82 runs made by the department, were calls meant for MedStat EMS, the private firm hired by the Board of Supervisors in 2008.
