RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A woman charged with driving under the influence and causing a head-on crash which killed an Orland teenager in 2008 was captured in Mexico recently and extradited back to Riverside County on Tuesday.

Elva Diaz, 31, reportedly faces charges of second degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of 19-year-old Rachel Elliott, an Orland High School graduate who was attending college in Southern California. The crash took place in Corona in February 2008.

According to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, Diaz was an emergency medical technician with a medical transport company at the time of the crash.

Diaz was located in Santa Cruz De Camolatan, a remote community about 2 1/2 hours outside Guadalajara. She allegedly fled to Mexico soon after posting bail in the 2008 incident.

She was booked into the Riverside County jail, where bail was set at $5 million.
