Texas company donates digital radios to EMS

Owners of Fire Alarm Control Systems, Inc., donated two high-capability mobile radios to EMS branch

San Antonio Express-News

SAN ANTONIO — Although there has been a state-wide initiative to convert from analog to digital radio communications, Bulverde-Spring Branch EMS has been proactive in making the switch.

EMS ambulances are now equipped with digital communications, but medics in the field do not have hand-held mobile digital communications. Each hand-held digital radio with emergency service requirements costs almost $4,000, including all the necessary software and multi-band compatibility

However, Duane and Debbie Hannasch, owners of Fire Alarm Control Systems, Inc., donated two of the high-capability mobile radios to Bulverde-Spring Branch EMS. Consequently, two more medics will now be in direct communications with all emergency service personnel, including Comal law enforcement.

The mobile digital radios have double the capacity, better audio clarity and their battery life is 40 percent longer. They are ideal for emergency service organizations that require customizable, portable and reliable communications.

"We are very indebted to the Hannasch's and Fire Alarm Control Systems for their generous donation," said EMS Chief Scott Wilkinson.
