Okla. firefighter dies after fight with fellow firefighter

Dale Patterson suffered fatal injuries in the incident at the Strother Fire Department

By EMS1 Staff

STROTHER, Okla. — A volunteer firefighter in Oklahoma died after a fight with another firefighter at the firehouse, according to reports.

Few details have been released about the altercation on Thursday, but authorities said no arrests have been made. The victim was identified was Dale Patterson, 56.

Seminole County Sheriff Shannon Smith said Patterson was transported to the OU Medical Center but died from his injuries.

Strother Fire Chief Nicholas Nadeau told KOCO that Patterson joined the department in 2007. Patterson was captain at the department and also served as its chaplain.

"He showed great leadership, great personality," Chief Nadeau said.

Patterson previously worked as a drug enforcement officer in New Mexico before moving to Oklahoma to retire, according to the report. The name of the other firefighter involved in the fight has not been released.

Willowbee Baize Wagstaff Willowbee Baize Wagstaff Friday, February 15, 2013 12:52:12 PM still sorry why would you fight someone that would pull you out of a burning house 2 in 2 out ........firefighters are a family no one can compare to brothers and sisters that would give there life for you and not hesitate to do so there is no reason that can be given good enough kill a brother/sister firefighter that my mind or heart can even grasp that would make this right .....not even a accidental fall there should have not been a fight at all i would never fight one of my fellow brothers/sisters in my time of need i know all of them will be there for me ......i think of all firefighters as my brothers/sisters and my first family

Unless you are directly connected to this case, you DO NOT deserve any details. You can want all you want but in the end, reality is it is really none of our business. Lets take a step back and let the authorities investigate this and they can decide what is pertinent to publish.

Eben Namiseb Eben Namiseb Saturday, February 16, 2013 12:49:09 AM "He showed great leadership, great personality," Chief Nadeau said. And that he was a captain/chaplain. Can the Fire Chief also tell us about the other firefighter’s leadership and personality as both officers was led by him. What are the Fire Chief comments with regard to his strategy?

Arthur Ball Arthur Ball Saturday, February 16, 2013 7:58:26 AM Jay Quoka Get that ignorant political crap out of here, and you should be glad that for once people are asking for more details instead of just blindly coming on here judging with little knowledge of the subject. Maybe you should go post on ABC or FOX news thread for like mindedness.
Jay Kenneth Jay Kenneth Saturday, February 16, 2013 9:26:17 AM There is nothing out of line in my statement. A man had died, what difference does it make how? Do we as a society really need to know the possibly nasty details. I think not. Demanding " details" is not showing any respect...
Steven W. Wilgus Steven W. Wilgus Saturday, February 16, 2013 11:41:03 AM details about the event can provide guidance to others - if a case of PTSD for example, then it shows the need for intervention. That 2 adults in an obviously dangerous field [firefighting] had a fight that resulted in DEATH, we in the FF Community are interested to learn WHY? Not as "lookie-loos", but to ascertain if WE OURSELVES may be at risk... While it seems far-fetched, it does impact us ALL. If a Law Enforcement member was killed, people would be all over this... [[[now to Mr. Quoka - I see no reason to politicize this thread with Obama. Your trolling is inappropriate in adult discourse, and I am asking you to please refrain from such non sequitur-like commenting]]].
Rose-Marie Louise Miller Rose-Marie Louise Miller Monday, February 18, 2013 9:36:57 AM I understand this but it is still sad!
