Man steals ambulance to drive himself to Fla. hospital

Paramedics said they were attending to a patient when they heard the ambulance's engine engage

TAMPA, Fla. — The suspect who allegedly stole an ambulance in Tampa on Thursday night told officers he had been attacked and was driving himself to the hospital.

According to Tampa Police officials, Hubert Lee Credit, 29, stole a TransCare ambulance around 10:27 p.m. from the 300 block of E. Genesee St. in Tampa.Officials said the ambulance was on a medical call when the suspect stole the emergency vehicle.

Paramedics said they were attending to a patient when they heard the ambulance's engine engage, looked outside and watched the vehicle drive off with lights activated. Officers quickly tracked the ambulance using onboard GPS.
