CHESTER, N.Y. — The captain of the North Warren Rescue Squad was arrested late Wednesday on a criminal charge that accuses him of renting rescue squad equipment to a business, officials said.

Jason Paul, 32, of Duell Hill Road, Brant Lake, was charged with misapplication of property, a misdemeanor, after an investigation by State Police.

He is accused of taking an automatic external defibrillator (AED), which is used to treat heart attack victims, that was issued to him by the rescue squad and renting it to a campground where he worked. The device was provided to him with the understanding that it would be kept in his vehicle to be taken to squad calls if needed.
