PHOENIX, Ariz. — A man convicted of stealing an ambulance in Phoenix two years ago has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

A Maricopa County spokesman says Travis Ward also was placed on lifetime probation.

Ward was arrested in July 2011 after taking a Phoenix Fire Department ambulance from the scene of a fire, going on a joyride and crashing into several houses, power poles and cars.

Ward later told police that he was under the influence of methamphetamines at the time and didn't know why he was driving the ambulance.
