N.H. man gets 52 years for stabbing EMT to death

Sentence could be reduced by 10 years with good behavior

The Associated Press

NASHUA, N.H. — A man who pleaded guilty to stabbing a man multiple times in Nashua, N.H., has been sentenced to 52 years in prison.

Matthew Packer pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in July in the October 2011 stabbing death of 27-year-old Paul Frontiero. He was sentenced Wednesday in Hillsborough County Superior Court South.

Frontiero, an EMT, rushed to the rescue of his two female roommates, who were attacked by the 21-year-old Packer outside an apartment building. The women also were stabbed and slashed; Packer also pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.

WMUR-TV reports the women said in court they suffered physical and mental anguish as a result of the attack.

Catherine and Paul Frontiero of Gloucester, Mass., Frontiero's parents, said they are pleased Packer will no longer be able to hurt anyone.
