Job Description |
SUMMARY
The Education and Quality Specialist is responsible for providing the following: clinical continuing education and training for all certified medical providers (EMT and EMT-P); identification of didactic and/or skill competency concerns, formulate a corrective plan of action, and provide remediation of medics as needed; assessment and development of new employees; monitoring of clinical quality performance through retrospective review of patient care reports; supporting the Agency’s quality improvement functions and clinical research efforts. The pre-requisite for selection to this position is requirement that the employee must be a field training officer or equivalent. The Education and Quality Specialist is engaged in training, education, and/or quality improvement focuses at all times. Furthermore, the Education and Quality Specialist can fulfill the field training component at any time and often establishes the clinical and remediation plans that current FTO’s follow when working with Agency employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•Assesses paramedic and EMT core knowledge and skill competency through the use of validated scenarios, which interact with advanced technology human patient simulators, against a realistic setting/environment.
•Conducts remedial training for those medics who are identified as “in need” through simulation, testing and/or quality improvement processes.
•Performs retrospective quality review of electronic patient care report data for selected priorities and categories.
•Evaluates field personnel performance through ride along observations.
•Assists with evaluation of new employee candidates through Assessment Center process.
•Assists with training and development of new employees through New Employee Orientation program.
•Assists with development and coordination of continuing education programs.
•Assists with implementing clinical quality improvement strategies.
•Assists with clinical research projects.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
•This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Eligible to obtain North Carolina EMT-Paramedic Certification
•Minimum two years of experience as a Field Training Officer/Trainer or similar role
•BCLS (with ability to obtain instructor status within one year)
•PALS (with ability to obtain instructor status within one year)
•ACLS (with ability to obtain instructor status within one year)
•BTLS or PHTLS/Equivalent (with ability to obtain BTLS instructor status within one year)
•Valid Driver’s License
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Associate of Applied Science from two year college or equivalent college experience preferred, but not required
COMPUTER SKILLS
Computer skills required, including Microsoft Office Suite. Position requires working with robotics, a variety of computer technology, and audio-visual equipment.
