Position Title: Lieutenant-Trainer

Position Type: Education

Job Description

Coordinates Firefighter/Medic Recruit training, in-service training, and proficiency assessments.
Instructs career and volunteer training programs.
Develops and implements new training curriculum.Provides input toward formulation of training budget.
Fosters volunteer involvement and membership to support a combination career and volunteer system.
Performs related work as assigned.

Additional Information

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required with a minimum of two (2) years related experience and be qualified as Instructor II through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs or certified as an EMT-B Instructor through the Virginia Office of EMS.
Advanced train-the-trainer in fire suppression and tactics or EMS education, preferred.
Applicant must be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office products as well as other fire-rescue service software application.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Possession of Firefighter II,
HazMat Operations,
EMT-B or higher,
EVOC III,
Strategy and Tactics,
Driver/Pump Operator and
ICS certifications.
Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications and certifications for position as established by the department.
Twelve-month probationary period.
Work beyond normal schedule.
Must wear uniform, including safety equipment.
Must maintain certification requirements.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
