Job Description |
Administering daily operations of a division; scheduling and assigning personnel and equipment; preparing and presenting reports; administering training programs; developing and implementing policies, rules and regulations; inspecting properties and investigating fires; maintaining records and files.
Plans, manages, organizes, directs, coordinates and supervises the activities for one of the following divisions; Field Operations, EMS, Training and Education,
Prepares and manages budget;
Develops, recommends and implements goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards;
Provides technical and practical assistance in specific expertise;
Serves as a representative of the Department, attending and participating in meetings as scheduled;
Assists with overall administration of the Fire & Rescue Department;
Coordinates division training programs;
Undertakes special assignments as directed;
Evaluates work of subordinates;
Reviews work of subordinate staff to ensure compliance with policies, rules, regulations, and statutory requirements;
Reviews existing policies and procedures and develops and implements changes as necessary or desirable;
Assesses training needs of staff and ensures that staff receives necessary training and professional development opportunities;
Maintains awareness of specific best practices and nationwide initiatives and trends; develops and implements changes as necessary or desirable;
Assesses training needs of staff and ensures that staff receives necessary training and professional development opportunities;
Applies for and administers grants and other specific program funds;
Interacts with federal, state and local agencies;
Prepares a variety of reports for officials;
Performs related tasks as required.
Comprehensive knowledge of the laws and regulations of fire, rescue and emergency services administration;
Comprehensive knowledge of the department rules and regulations; thorough knowledge of local and state laws and local ordinances;
Thorough knowledge of the geography of Fauquier County and the location of buildings;
Ability to deal with the public firmly and tactfully;
Ability to analyze complex fire, rescue and emergency services issues and to adopt quick,
Effective and reasonable courses of action;
Skill in the use of specialized fire and emergency medical services equipment and the operation of a motor vehicle;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and produce effective reports and studies as required

Additional Information
|
Position requires a bachelors degree from an accredited institution supplemented by coursework in fire science, emergency medical services or related field and considerable fire suppression and emergency medical experience. Candidates with demonstrated college completion may be accepted upon a determined date for said bachelors degree. Candidates with experience as a Captain level or higher (Volunteer or career) in the Fauquier County Fire Rescue system highly preferred.
EMT,
Possession of Fire Officer III,
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia,
EVOC III,
Strategy and Tactics,
Driver/Pump Operator and
ICS 300 certifications.
Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications and certifications for position as established by the department.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a self contained breathing apparatus. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
