Drug math: The "Clock" and "App" methods

How confident are you in calculating your medicine drip?

You are awoken by tones for a SOB patient at 0330 and your mind is foggy.

You arrive to find a critical patient with pulmonary edema who is hypotensive in cardiogenic shock. How confident are you in calculating your medicine drip?

There are several ways to perform these calculations for your medicine drip administration including the "Clock" method. In addition, with today's technology, I would like to show you an "App" method, too.

Jon Puryear, NREMT-P, has been active in EMS since 1983. He has been an active paramedic since 1992 including being an educator and Field Training Officer for several employers. He was the Assistant to the Medical Director for Dr. John Griswell in Ft. Worth, Texas, for EPAB/MedStar EMS and the Education/Clinical Coordinator for CareFlite in the Dallas/Ft.
