EMS Today: Event highlights not to miss

Unique offerings include an interactive exhibit featuring "anything and everything" you need to know about an MCI, to a CPR workshop from Resuscitation Academy

By EMS1 Staff

MCI City

It will be difficult not to notice this on the exhibit hall. A massive display will feature “anything and everything you would have on the scene in a mass casualty incident,” said EMS Today Sr. Marketing Manager Danette Ward.

This includes everything from an accident scenario scene, ambulance buses, command vehicle SUVs, training simulations, triage and treatment products, command boards and more. The interactive exhibit provides a comprehensive look at mass casualty planning and execution, and will be especially helpful for those who have never experienced such an incident.

“This puts you in the moment, so you can really see,” Ward said.

JEMS Games

This friendly competition has about 18 teams signed up to see how they respond to a fun and challenging incident. The test enables participants to share their expertise, experience, techniques and technology, and those watching will be able to learn a lot. Last year featured an assassination attempt. We’re excited to see what this year brings.

Tours

Baltimore’s The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center cares for Maryland’s most severely injured victims, and has opened its doors to guests of EMS Today for the first time. This is a rare opportunity to see first-hand the patient assessment and treatment process. You can also tour the Children’s National Medical Center and take a peek inside FEMA’s National Response Coordination Center. Space is limited, so register soon.

Resuscitation Academy

This hands-on four-hour workshop requires an advance registration of $25, and will be well worth it. The training from the internationally-recognized academy will not only emphasize high-performance CPR training, but teach you how to implement it in your own department. It will be fast paced and informative, with information on techniques and resuscitation science, such as the “pit crew” approach.

Community Paramedicine Programs: Development and Implementation

For you early birds, this eight-hour pre-conference workshop features national and international experts who will talk about current programs, their performance, reimbursement, and how to construct a business case for stakeholders and potential funders.
