Fla. firefighter accused of spying on medic in shower fired

Carlos Marti dismissed after meeting with fire chief over allegations

By EMS1 Staff

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A firefighter charged with spying on a 19-year-old paramedic intern as she was taking a shower has been fired

Carlos Alberto Marti, 36, was placed on administrative leave without pay Friday after being charged with misdemeanor voyeurism following the alleged incident.

The 8-year-veteran was dismissed from the St. Lucie County, Fla., Fire Department Monday after meeting with Fire Chief Ron Parrish and a union representative, according to CBS 12 News.

The official police report into the allegations says the 19-year-old paramedic was alerted to Marti's presence by "squeaking noises" above her while she was showering at Station 15. She turned off the water and looked up to find a man looking down on her from the ceiling, the report said.

When arrested, Marti told Fort Pierce police he was in the ceiling to play a prank on the girl by dumping flour on her, claiming a similar prank had been played on him years earlier, according to The Associated Press.

However, Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said the department doubted his version of events.

"We do not believe it was a prank," Chaney reportedly told Naples Daily News. "All indications are that it was not a prank."
