ATLANTA — A motorcyclist died Saturday night after he drove into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with an ambulance in north Atlanta, police said.

The man, whose identity was not made public, died at the scene, Atlanta police Officer Ron Campbell said. He was believed to be in his 30s.

A patient and two medical workers, who were riding in the private ambulance owned by American Medical Response, were not injured, Campbell said.

The accident happened about 8 p.m. as the motorcyclist was traveling south in the 3600 block of Peachtree Road.

For unknown reasons, the cyclist crossed the center line, hit the ambulance and slid underneath it, where his body was trapped, Campbell said.
