BEAUFORT, S.C. — You don't have to drive an ambulance anymore to show off the international EMS symbol on the roads.

Danny Tinnel, a paramedic and Beaufort County EMS crew chief, designed a new state license plate featuring the blue star of life, which became available through the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles last month.

The plates cost $30, with $21.52 of each sale going to the South Carolina EMS Association, a lobbying group and professional association.
