FBI raids Los Angeles ambulance company

Workers entering the building were scanned and agents confiscated boxes in Gentle Care Transport’s garage, but it’s unclear what they were looking for

By EMS1 Staff

LOS ANGELES — Federal agents scanned workers and confiscated boxes at Gentle Care Transport's garage, but authorities are not immediately revealing the reason for Thursday's raid on the company.

Several FBI and LAPD vehicles lined the block along the location of the provider in Atwater Village, CBS Los Angeles reports. Workers were scanned with metal detector wands and their bags were searched before FBI agents would allow them inside the building.

Agents also searched boxes in the company's garage and took some away in a van. Gentle Care Transport provides emergency transport services in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties.

An FBI spokesperson said agents were executing a federal search warrant. Since the affidavit for the warrant was sealed, authorities could not release the purpose for the raid.

Cedric Jackson Cedric Jackson Friday, July 11, 2014 11:03:33 PM I never heard of them either and I've worked in LA County from 1988-2007, although the same thing happened at Rischer ambulance in Montebello back in 1999. Some shady, pop-up, fly-by-night companies in LA county.
Kim Nelson Kim Nelson Saturday, July 12, 2014 3:23:44 AM I've worked in all the County's mentioned and I have never heard of this company.
Kevin Ingersoll Kevin Ingersoll Saturday, July 12, 2014 7:26:55 AM I have been through one of these type of raids. They are not fun. The person I work for I also rent from. They even ask to come in and look around in the house. If you have nothing to hide it will be ok.
Richard Borden Richard Borden Saturday, July 12, 2014 9:19:10 AM It wasn't FBI, it was HHS OIG, basically a federal agency that specializes in Medicare fraud investigations. I used to work there a few years ago... There was definitely some shady stuff going on. I wouldn't be surprised if they go down just like Alpha did.
Tom Carlstrom Tom Carlstrom Saturday, July 12, 2014 1:32:09 PM I thought LA EMS was municiple. They are private? If so...shut it down!
Steve Phares Steve Phares Saturday, July 12, 2014 5:20:17 PM Yeah, IFT's. I see their crappy rigs all the time. Like a bunch of second hand rigs, though their website shows shiny new stuff.
????? ??????? ????? ??????? Saturday, July 12, 2014 5:30:04 PM "Emergency Transport" means private emergencies where 911 isn't called.
????? ??????? ????? ??????? Saturday, July 12, 2014 5:32:18 PM For those of you that care enough to ponder why they were raided by the FBI......Private and family owned companies have a tendency of siphoning money for their personal use and also tax evasion. Yeah I know, omg......and now you're all educated.
Stephen Thomas Stephen Thomas Saturday, July 12, 2014 6:04:14 PM Please explain to me. The concept you have that if they are private, SHUT IT DOWN. I understand it is your opinion, but why would you say that? Is this private company breaking any laws at the current time?
Michael Grant Michael Grant Saturday, July 12, 2014 7:14:50 PM They are another one of the "Glendale companies" that gets raided or shut down regularly. They will be open again soon, under a different name and a different owner's name. Sad, but quite common amongst that population.
Michael Grant Michael Grant Saturday, July 12, 2014 7:16:26 PM They are one of the biggest companies in Los Angeles, probably 50 or more units
Diana Sprain Diana Sprain Thursday, July 17, 2014 9:04:49 AM Until the facts come out - shouldn't condemn the entire company - if it is Medicare Fraud, then the billing & Admin folks are to blame, not the crews. The first company I worked for (In LA) had billers 'make adjustments' to insurance to get extra money. They did encourage us to list every item billable, possible. Ultimately, individuals have to take personal responsibility for their actions, though. Remember Nancy Regan's "Just say no." campaign. Same applies to employees who perform tasks they know are illegal.

Carolyn Bowman Carolyn Bowman Sunday, July 27, 2014 7:05:31 PM I had just Googled this firm. Paul David Husen claims to be (or has been)"Director of CCT/RN Operations Gentle Care Transport, Inc at Gentle Care Transport, Inc". This individual has falsified his background. His California license as an LVN had been cancelled on 31 MAY 93. The State California does not have him listed as an RN. He has made grandiose claims of a non-existent military background. He was discharged from the U. S. Navy as a Seaman Apprentice. He was never with Special Operations as a Navy SEAL. He's a walking case of Stolen Valor. Senior Master Chief (Retire) don Shipley has outed him as a phony SEAL.
