New Haven Register

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Five people were injured Monday morning when an ambulance with a patient inside was involved in an accident with another vehicle in front of the University of New Haven campus.

Emergency crews were on the scene on the Boston Post Road at about 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The ambulance was traveling eastbound on the Post Road heading to the hospital with a patient from a prior emergency when it was involved in the crash. The other vehicle was traveling southbound on Pruden Street, police said.

Police spokesman Sgt. David Tammaro said two American Medical Response ambulance personnel, a West Haven firefighter who was on board the ambulance, the patient and the driver of the other vehicle were injured in the crash. All five were taken to local hospitals for treatment, Tammaro said.

Some of the injuries were serious, Tammaro said. He did not specify the conditions of each person involved in the crash.

The original patient was transferred to another ambulance and the one involved in the crash was towed from the scene.
